About the Team

Advocate Networks’ senior consultant and director Marco Kuysten disguises his European heritage with a subtle accent prompting many to ask, "Where did you grow up? Was it Canada? Germany? What about Belgium?"

As it turns out, Marco is from The Netherlands, a Northern European country many people simply refer to as Holland. "Most think of windmills, wooden shoes, and the ‘Red Light District' when they hear where I'm from," he laughs.  “However, they are missing the rich history, beautiful countryside, and modern ports that make us the gateway to Europe.”

Marco moved to the U.S. in 2003 with his wife in a stateside transfer.  He joined Advocate Networks in 2006 bringing global experience and knowledge to the consulting team. Skills gained at companies like KPN (a leading European telecom company) and KPMG enables him to address a wide range of constantly evolving technology issues. Working with clients like Heineken, AOL, 3M, and Doctors with out Borders – and helping them achieve their business goals by implementing information and telecommunications strategies – prepared Marco to contribute to the Advocate Networks mission.

"It's an incredible challenge for clients to keep up with the new technology and how it can accelerate their success," Kuysten says. "I'm able to help them optimize communication services and achieve their targets. It's a huge job, but one that's very exciting."

When Kuysten is away from the office, his number one priority is spending time with his wife, Jennifer, and their 19-month-old son, Ian. For him, family always comes first. "Any family activity is my favorite way of spending free time."

They enjoy being outdoors, playing in local parks, traveling and entertaining.  Kuysten also aspires to swing a golf club but is much more comfortable with managing the movement of a sword.  The Japanese martial arts of Jodo and Iaido are Marco’s first love. Jodo involves using a four-foot stick and Iaido is known as the art of drawing the sword.  Having a filet and a nice Islay Scotch with a friend or colleague is a perfect end to his busy week.
