Event Recap: 2009 CTAM Summit

By Tim Wise, Co-President and Co-Founder, Advocate Networks, LLC

Advocate Networks attended the 2009 Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM) Summit held in Denver, Colorado October 23-25. This year's event what somewhat unique due to the CTAM content focusing on services and applications for MSOs.

Thomas Howe (www.thomashowe.com), an industry guru on voice applications, provided an interesting and thought-provoking discussion on the "future of voice." More specifically, Howe discussed future applications such as voice-enabled scheduling and innovative services leveraging voice instead of test-based communications. He referenced a company that utilizes voice services to alert recipients of catalogs, telling them that the catalog will be received in the mail the following day. The company increased catalog orders to those prospects by a significant amount, showing the value of a voice-based message.

The MSOs generally continued to recognize the significant success in growing its market share for voice services, but also discussed the challenges of mobile substation, otherwise known as "cord cutting." MSOs are continuing to invest in its core video and content strength, while incrementally advancing HSD and voice services to both the residential and commercial markets. This continued investment will only continue to create more innovation and competition to the benefit of both residential and commercial users of video, voice and data services.
