Announcing the “Service Provider Consulting Practice”

By Scott Fogle,
Co-President and Co-Founder,
Advocate Networks, LLC

Tim Wise and I are excited to announce the formation of the Service Provider Consulting Practice. We are proud of the legacy of successful relationships we have formed with clients including several of the largest cable companies and many of the alternative service providers (CLECs, conferencing and international). We believe this market is a great opportunity for growth at Advocate Networks. During 2008, the service provider consulting business grew to a stage where dedicated leadership and experience are needed to continue to expand innovation and service offerings. We are happy to announce that Gerry Carson, formerly with BellSouth and AT&T, has joined Advocate Networks as the Managing Consultant of the Service Provider Consulting Practice.

Before joining Advocate Networks, Gerry held responsibility for AT&T wholesale wireline pricing, including all customized pricing offers and negotiations for 22 states. Prior to AT&T, Gerry managed wholesale tactical and strategic pricing for BellSouth in its 9-state footprint. Gerry adds the following areas of expertise to the Advocate team:

  • Wholesale market knowledge and relationships
  • Wholesale telecommunications pricing
  • Structuring and negotiating successful telecommunications agreements
  • Business case development and other financial analysis.

Gerry earned his MBA from Goizueta Business School and is a native of Atlanta. Gerry and his wife Ashley have two sons, Kent and Holden, ages 3 and 6.
Gerry can be reached at (678) 987-5905 or Gerry.carson@advocatenetworks.com.

CTAM SUMMIT 2008

By Tim Wise,
Co-President and Co-Founder,
Advocate Networks, LLC

As a part of our focus on the cable industry, we attended the CTAM Summit in Boston from November 9-11, 2008. While CTAM has an extensive focus on traditional cable programming and advertising, CTAM has evolved (as have most cable companies) with a presence of executives focused on the telephony and data business. Specifically, one session focused on the power of the bundle – Phone + Mobile + Internet + TV – while clearly the nirvana for cable and compelling – significant work still exists with the primary gap being mobile. Several executives were focused on developing and growing new products focused on business class voice and data services – a huge untapped market for cable. The key for cable companies looking to take advantage of this opportunity is understanding the business class customer through an accurate market assessment, competitive analysis and positioning, and optimal pricing strategy. Of course, as you would expect, CTAM had great entertainment including the Bond movie preview, LL Cool J and Ziggy Marley.

2010 and Beyond: All Signs Point Toward Higher Access Costs

By Gerry Carson,
Managing Consultant,
Advocate Networks, LLC

The state of the telecommunications industry demands that service providers take action today to prepare for potentially higher future access costs. Consolidation has dramatically increased the pricing power of the RBOCs. Industry revenue continues to trend downward, generating unprecedented cost pressure for all in the marketplace. In a market downturn, successful players will be executing strategic plans to reduce cost and mitigate the risk of rising costs. Restructuring networks does not happen overnight and thus providers must act today in order to be prepared.

Advocate Networks Team Members Working at a Christmas Parade

By Scott Fogle,
Co-President and Co-Founder,
Advocate Networks, LLC

As part of our community service contributions for 2008 and to help get in the Holiday spirit, members of the Advocate Networks team work rolled out early on Saturday morning, December 6 to work on behalf of CHILDREN’S HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA at the Annual Christmas Holiday Parade down Peachtree Street. Arriving at 7am to temperatures in the high 20’s, the team braved windy and cold conditions to help with the “Wheeled Floats” participating in the parade. Present at the event and pictured below, from left to right, Gerry Carson, Scott Fogle, Jeff Priest, April Hobbs, Carrisa Baptiste, Renae Level and Afshin Yamin. Everyone’s Christmas and Volunteer Spirit certainly warmed our hearts!

Thanks again to the volunteers at this event. The proceeds go to a great cause – improving and delivering healthcare to children!
